Rob Kleinbaum

Dr. Kleinbaum has over 20 years experience in consulting and as a corporate executive. The efforts he has led include major organizational change projects, developing internal consulting capabilities, and developing and implementing major corporate strategies.

As a founder of GM’s Decision Support Center, Dr. Kleinbaum helped establish one of the leading internal consulting companies in the world and has continued to play a key role in its growth and development. He has worked as a coach on projects, as an advisor to the management team, and has helped develop, teach, and coach the adoption of new methodologies. He has also advised internal consulting firms in the oil and gas, chemical, manufacturing, and aerospace industries.

For many years, he has worked on high-stake, high-conflict problems, characterized by organizational complexity and analytic difficulty. He is regularly bought in when the client needs someone to help them through the problem, to work directly with their leadership and their staffs. The content of these problems has varied widely. They have included enterprise growth and integration, business unit strategy, Internet marketing, distribution and channel, product development, and technology choice, and designing GM’s Consultant Management Process, among others. Many of the projects have been global, including both major integration efforts and regional strategies in Asia and Europe.

An underlying theme of the projects over the last few years has been how to integrate and grow the enterprise while maintaining strong core businesses – indeed how to use the core business as a platform for profitable growth. The success of these efforts hinges on integrating business structure, strategies, and processes to ensure the company effectively leverages all its assets.

Dr. Kleinbaum is the founder and managing director of RAK & Co., was a partner and practice area leader at Strategic Decisions Group, a Director at General Motors’ Decision Support Center, and Assistant Professor of Economics at University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, where he received a Ph.D. in Economics.
